55—that’s how many signs have been added to Boston’s Harborwalk over the past six years to help enrich people’s experience along the waterfront. All were created by the Friends of the Boston Harborwalk SignTeam.
“We’re committed to including individuals whose stories have often been overlooked,” explains Liz Nelson Weaver, SignTeam lead.
Look for signs about self-emancipated men and women who sought freedom by sea, the one about blind children learning to sail, or another about a woman who set a sailing speed record. This year’s new signs also include the first one written in Spanish, celebrating East Boston’s immigrant community.
All signs can be found on the FBHW companion website BosHW.us, in English and Spanish, as well as with audio recordings thanks to the partnership with the Perkins School for the Blind media lab.
